Permalink | | Email this | CommentsIt’s 3D everywhere lately. This time, it’s PC accessory maker Buffalo, which announced [JP] a portable drive for 3D Blu-ray discs today. Just plug the BP3D-PI6U2-BK into your computer via USB to view 3D Blu-ray movies (not that there are many at this point) or other 3D content, provided you have a 3D-enabled PC or display.
The drive writes data on BD-R/RDL6 discs at 6x and on BD-RE/RE DL discs at 2x. The device measures 137×147×20mm and weighs 340g. It’s only compatible to Windows machines (XP/Vista/7).
The BP3D-PI6U2-BK will hit Japanese stores within this month (price: $345). Buffalo sells quite a wide range of hardware in the US as well and given the current 3D hype isn’t Japan only, we can expect to see the drive to retail in other territories at some point in the future, too.
Three new Powerline kits -- AV 200, AV 500, and AV+ 500 -- were also announced to help consumers avoid the pain of stringing Ethernet in every direction. The entry level AV 200 appears to improve on the previous HDXB101 kit by offering the same theoretical 200mbps in addition to push button security enhancements and greener power consumption. The AV 500 kit provides the same and ramps the networking speeds to up to -- you guessed it -- 500mbps, while the "+" version throws in a pass-through filtered AC socket to avoid sacrificing precious outlets. Priced all below $200, every kit will available by mid November for all the fall home networking networking your heart could desire. Peep the galleries and PR below for further details.

Those all-in-one 3D TVs Sony announced today weren’t enough for you? Then take a look at the six new 3D Blu-ray recorders the company showed [JP] for the first time. All models support the BDXL format (discs with 100GB capacity), and according to Sony, they just need half a second to be ready after you push the “on” button.
But superior specs come with a high price. The cheapest model costs $1,060 and features a 500GB HDD, AVC support and a digital TV tuner.
There are also models with 320GB ($1,120), 500GB ($1,500) and 1TB ($1,770) HDDs on board. These recorders have two digital TV tuners and feature DLNA support.
The two flagship devices (BDZ-AX1000 and BDZ-AX2000) come with 1TB ($2,360) and 2TB ($3,190/pictured) HDDs, respectively. These feature two digital TV tuners, DLNA support, two HDMI ports (instead of one), a memory stick/SD card slot and are equipped with Sony’s CREAS PRO chip for improved picture quality.
Sony plans to start selling all devices in Japan on October 22 (the 2TB model will go on sale on September 29). No word yet regarding international sales plans.
Mitsubishi Japan has announced three brand new, full HD tvs for your home theater-loving pleasure. Much like the , all three boast the capability to record to their hard drives or Blu-ray. Spec-wise, they've got full HD, backlit LCDs, 1TB HDDs, a ten speaker Diatone system, USB and SD slots, and HDMI. The sets, which come in 40, 46, and 55-inches, also come with a pair of 3D glasses. They will be available in Japan in October for roughly $3,500, $4,700 and $5,900, respectively.
